Strange as it may seem, unbeknownst to the humans, the animals take on human-like characteristics. Players are allowed to explore the farm and surrounding areas. This was the case when THQ released “Cars,” based on the Pixar/Disney film, and it is the case again with Nickelodeon’s “Barnyard.”Īt the beginning of the game you assume the role of a teenage cow (you can choose the character to be male or female) getting to know the lay of the land. It’s nice to see video games based on movies deviate from the on-screen story to allow the gamer opportunities to explore the world of the feature. “LocoRoco” reminds me of a mash-up of “Katamari Damacy,” “King of Swing” and “Lemmings,” creating a unique game that’s one of the most fun yet to hit the PSP. And since those are the main controls, you can focus on the fun, as opposed to trying to remember which button to push. You literally tilt the landscape to make your LocoRoco roll around by pressing either the left or right trigger. The controls add to the uniqueness – and supreme ease – of the game. Unfortunately, these lil’ buggers are under attack from some evil space dudes, so it’s your job to roll ’em to safety across dozens of bright landscapes that hum with childlike voices and sounds. In their happy, shiny, cartoon-like environment, you control the LocoRoco – creatures that, though small to begin with, coagulate into a bigger blob that enlarges like a snowball as you collect more and more of them. “LocoRoco” achieves this in a very enjoyable way. It’s rare these days for a game to come along and be unique, but those that do stand out from the rest – and usually in a good way. The Game Zone: ‘LocoRoco’ is crazy fun – Orange County Register
